Detroit was the city of huge car manufacturers which created a lot of jobs. In the financial crisis the city went bankrupt, leaving thousands of people without a job. People went to find their luck somewhere else, leaving behind their homes.
In this project Decay in Detroit the demise of the city is documented using Google Streetview. You can see a visual time line from just abandoned houses to houses which are left behind years ago. These houses are taken over by nature again, not accustomed to going years without maintenance.
On one hand this shows the tragedy of people having to leave behind their house, their home. On the other hand it also resembles a positive image; the industrial town which expanded with no regards for nature is taken back within a few years.
